Professor Li Yimin, Academician Zhang Haibo and Academician Zhong Nanshan of the laboratory’s intensive care team have made significant progress in the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) cells in mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). The research results “Identification and Modulation of Microenvironment Is Crucial for Effective MSC Therapy in Acute Lung Injury” was published on May 15, 2019 in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (influence factor: 15.239).

This study suggests that MSCs may have beneficial or deleterious effects on ARDS treatment, depending on the characteristic microenvironment of the lungs at the time of treatment. By screening for ARDS patients with plasma biomarkers to screen for ARDS patients who may benefit from MSC treatment, a characteristic treatment plan can be made to achieving accurate cell therapy for ARDS.
