Recently, the team of Prof. Zhao Jincun and Prof. Zhao Jingxian of the Laboratory cooperated with Professor Abdulaziz N. Alagaili of Riyadh King Saud University of Saudi Arabia and Prof. Stanley Perlman of the University of Iowa of the United States to discover that about 50% of the camel practitioners working in Saudi Arabia had been infected with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and guessed for the first time that camel practitioners may be one of the channels for the spreading of MERS virus, which has filled the gap in the research of MERS transmission. The research finding was published on the journal mBio on October 30, 2018.
